Jack Evans, who touts himself as the “greenest” DC Councilmember, has lapses where money comes into play. He is following up his emergency legislation of last year creating for his “friends in the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick,” an exeption to DC smoke-free laws, allowing cigars at their annual St. Patrick’s Day party (usually at a big-name hotel).
But Jack, Irish upper crust notwithstanding, a ban on cigar-smoking in enclosed public-access spaces at all times is a superior idea. Are you going to refund the money to other parties in the hotel who thought they were in a smoke-free zone? Or those who try to use the venue on subsequent days while the stench lingers?
Give a wink back to the “Irish upper crust” acknowledging your favorite son status, and say no more about this lousy, stinky idea.
